Teaching & Learning Support
Introduction:
Teaching & Learning should be at the heart of what we do in school each day.
Although the quality of teaching has been the focus in schools in recent years, I think it is quite right that the quality of learning is now seen to be even more important. Of course, it is highly likely that quality learning emerges from quality teaching but we must be careful not to assume that effective learning will take place following our best efforts to plan our lessons.
Perhaps we should also remember that we have much to learn from each other and that subject specialisms, particularly in a secondary environment, may not provide the only conduit to improve our practice in the classroom. When it comes to behaviour management or setting homework, perhaps observing the practice of teachers in subjects other than our own may hold the key to our further development.
I can offer you the following areas of Teaching & Learning Support:
-
Help with organising Drop Ins and Open Door events.
-
How to organise observations that are open and supportive and not always seen as judgemental.
-
How to focus on what students have learned in our lessons.
-
How to organise high quality coursework lessons at GCSE which focus on contextual themes and product outcomes required of the examination boards.
-
How to observe a lesson and how to give feedback.
-
What to look for in a good practical lesson with a focus on Health & Safety.
-
How to set homework that supports learning and avoids confrontation at the start of lessons.
-
Exploring the personal qualities that we all need in order to become the best teachers we can be.
